I wish to welcome you to our eighteenth National Institute for Teaching Excellence (NITE).  This summer you will come together to study and share ideas about teaching and learning, leading and operating classrooms and schools using effective theories and strategies.  Students at NITE come from across the United States, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and several foreign countries to study and socialize with fellow teachers and administrators in this five week residency program.

You will have an opportunity to study with a diversity of Professors who are some of the most highly qualified scholar/practitioners in their fields. We have a large variety of undergraduate and graduate program offerings. Some programs lead to teacher and/or administrator licenses, and others may be taken for professional advancement.

It has been the experience of previous students that after five weeks of collaborative learning, they leave re-invigorated and excited to bring their newly learned knowledge and skills back to their school districts.  At the same time they have experienced a sadness to leave newly acquired friends and colleagues.

I look forward to meeting you this summer.

Sincerely,

Anthony J. DeMatteo, Ph.D.
Dean, School of Education
